The tower's hyperboloid lattice was designed to look like a twisting rope, tapering to a famously narrow waist of just over 20 metres — which is why locals nicknamed it 'small slim waist'. The structure is a TV and observation tower, but its evening light displays have become the centrepiece of the whole Pearl River skyline.
The viewing logic is reversed from most towers: the best sightline is back across the river at the Zhujiang New Town skyline and the Canton tower itself, so many photographers skip the paid deck and shoot the tower from Haixinsha island or the north bank instead. Both experiences are worth doing.

Haze is common — a hazy day turns the higher decks into a white-out, so pick a clear evening or save the ticket. Queues for the elevator are shortest before 5 pm. The riverside promenade below is free and lively at night with street performers.

The transparent skywalk segment on the way up is the crowd-pleaser, and at 150 yuan this is the budget entry-level ticket most first-timers buy. Go up before 5pm and you can watch the sky change from blue to orange to black without moving.
450m Open-Air Observation Deck
Step outside at 450m and you get the unglazed, wind-in-your-hair panorama that screens can't capture — the whole river bend, Haizhu and Tianhe skylines stretching to the horizon.
