Why go
Wuzhen is split into two managed districts. The East Area (Dongzha) keeps a real market-town character with morning vendors and working residents. The West Area (Xizha) is the polished showcase — wider canals, hotel rooms inside the district, and a famous lighting design after dark.
Because it is uniformly managed, Wuzhen is the easiest water town for first-time travellers: clean, well-signposted, and free of the aggressive hawking found elsewhere.

Where to go
Spend the first afternoon in the West Area, staying for dinner and the night views. The next morning, cross to the East Area early for the dye workshop and the market street. The two areas are a short shuttle apart.
Practical notes
The overnight package ticket is the smart buy — day tickets force you out by 22:00, and half the magic happens after dusk. Book the in-district hotel weeks ahead in peak season; it fills fast.
