Best month to visit

May–Oct

The bungee runs in fair weather; go on a clear, windless day. Winter is spectacular for the gorge's ice-lantern festival but the platform closes in cold, icy conditions.

Why go

Longqing Gorge is a glacially carved canyon in the mountains northwest of Beijing, more commonly known for its summer boat rides and winter ice-lantern festival. The bungee platform sits on the canyon rim above the reservoir, where the jump line is short, controlled and — for the jumpers who make it to the edge — genuinely terrifying.

The format is simple: walk the platform, get clipped, step or dive. The fall is over in seconds, then the rebound does its elastic dance and a cable hauls you back to the deck. Crowds on the canyon boats below stop to watch, which is roughly half the fun.

  • The jump itself — a 48 m free-fall that lasts about four seconds before the rebound
  • The setting: a sheer-walled gorge with the reservoir reflecting the cliff below you
  • The winch ride back up, which turns the fear into a very good view
  • Combine with a boat cruise through the gorge for the chill version of the same day

Practical tips

Leave jewellery, phones and loose change with a friend or in the lockers — they don't come down with you. The platform is open-air and windswept; wear clothes you don't mind billowing. If you're the supportive bystander, the boat wharf gives the best angle for photos of the fall.

Nearby

The gorge's sightseeing boats thread the narrow canyon to a cliff waterfall at the far end. After the jump, the drive back toward Beijing passes the Badaling stretch of the Great Wall and the Yanqing Olympic venues — easy adds to a long weekend.

Getting there

  • Bus or taxi from central Beijing to Yanqing district (~2h), then the short transfer to the gorge entrance
