Why go
The Naxi people worship this mountain as a guardian god, and no one has ever summited it — it is considered sacred and unclimbable. Visitors reach the glacier edge by cable car instead, stepping onto a boardwalk at 4,500 metres with the glacier wall ahead.
The mountain is a full-day production: cable car to the snow line, then Blue Moon Valley and Spruce Meadow below. Altitude is the real challenge — most visitors feel it above 4,000 metres.

Practical tips
Take oxygen (available at the base) and go slowly. The cable-car slot is sacred — arrive 30 minutes early. Cloud clears best before 11:00. Dress for winter even in summer: it is cold and windy at the top.
