The Sky Ladder solves the classic Chinese mountain problem — 4,000 steps to the top — by bolting a covered escalator onto the cliff instead. Riders rise in seven sections through the rock face, stepping out onto summit paths that a cable car alone couldn't reach.
Above the escalators, the Wuzhifeng loop connects glass walkways, viewing decks and the five-peak panorama with a wide, smooth path. It is the same mountain grandeur as Hunan's other ranges, minus the leg burn.

Practical tips
The cable car from the base plus the escalators is the standard up-route; the down route reverses it. Fog comes up fast on wet days — start before 9:00 and check the summit webcam. Glass sections require rented shoe covers, a small fee at the entry.

Mangshan is in Yizhang county, far south of Hunan — pair it with Zhangjiajie in the north for a two-range Hunan mountain trip, or detour into the karst of northern Guangdong on the way back.
